Greetings! Good news in the reggae-dub planet with Hotdrop's new release âDis[cover] a delightful selection of powerful covers that aim straight to the heart of Jamaican rhythm lovers.
âDis[cover]â will rock you with its authentic showcase format, each track has a first vocal part which later gives way to a totally atmospheric âHotdroppicâ dub.
On this occasion, the Spanish band leaves its mark with a unique covers compilation, often played live by Hotdrop, which renders tribute to souls classics (William Devaughn, The Spinners) and legendary late 70s reggae singles (Matumbi, Dennis Brown, Inner Circle).
Entirely recorded in Madrid city and mixed analogically in a 8 track device, âDis[cover]â works as a time machine that brings us these vintage scented unique covers, never loosing Hotdropâs refreshing sound.
The record travels from soul grounds with the mellow âBe Thankfulâ, passing the rhythmic soulful-reggae with âBluebeat & Skaâ and the indomitable âIâll be aroundâ, to end up flowing into the wild Caribbean sound of âShould Iâ and âReggae Thingâ, culminating this musical trip in âStraight to the Greencat's headâ, dubwise from the caverns.
As usual in Hotdropâs releases, collaborations found in âDis[cover]â are pleasant surprises, such as Carlos Alonso (Amalgamah) and Quique Vaz, not only great friends of Hotdrop but also well known artists within the up and coming spanish reggae scene.
And true to their philosophy that âother music is possibleâ, âDis[cover]â, which is edited by Lafamille Music netlabel under Creative Commons licence, is available for free download on the webâ¦so enjoy, share and spread the word, let reggae meet no barriers!
Without a doubt, âDis[cover]â is the best remedy to calm your cravings for more Hotdrop while waiting for their next record, currently âunder constructionâ at the studio. Stay tuned for more news to come brothers and sisters!
